BUT WHY? By the end of third grade, all students need to have mastered their multiplication facts (0-10) with three second automaticity. If all else fails, old fashioned flash cards can REALLY help with this. In addition, it is really important that students don't loose the automaticity of their addition and subtraction facts they learned in lower grades.
